The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold primaries to elect parliamentary candidates in constituencies where it has sitting Members of Parliament on 20th June ahead of the 2020 general elections in December.
The exercise will take place in one hundred and sixty-five (165) constituencies on the said day as three constituencies – Kwadaso, Gushegu and Dormaa Central – have been put on hold.
Sixty-five (65) aspirants are going unopposed while hundred (100) aspirants will go through contests.
The NPP had planned to hold the parliamentary primaries on 25, 2020, but was suspended indefinitely in accordance with the President’s ban on public gatherings in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, being a member of the NPP has sent a goodwill message to all aspirants.
He has admonished all members to adhere to the protocols put in place by the party and the electoral commission at the various election grounds across the country to ensure their safety and the success of the exercise.
