Former President John Dramani Mahama has in a Facebook post reacted to the news of the murder of Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford, Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency.
“I have received the shocking news of the death of Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford, MP for Mfantseman in a reported armed robbery attack,” he wrote.
He described the incident as “a most despicable act” and called on the security agencies to “investigate and arrest those involved and bring them speedily to justice”.
Mr. Mahama who is the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress for the 2020 elections bemoaned the growing spate of insecurity in the country and urged the government and the security agencies to do more to protect the citizenry.
“There is a growing climate of insecurity in Ghana. Dastardly armed robberies and violent crime have become a common occurrence. I urge government and the security agencies to do more to protect the Ghanaian people”, part of the Facebook post read.
He then added his voice to the call by some members of parliament for the state to provide police protection for MPs. He wrote “it is probably also time to look at the provision of armed police guards for our MPs.”
He extended his condolences to the spouse and family of the late MP.
Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford, was allegedly shot dead by armed robbers Friday dawn while the MP and his team were returning from a campaign trip at Dominase to his residence at Mankessim.
Reports say they were attacked by the armed men on the Abeadze Dominase – Abeadze Duadzi – Mankessim road where the MP was killed.
